WOODEN PANTRY BOX SET

WOODEN PANTRY BOX SET

Pantry Boxes were used extensively in the 19th century for storing grains, meal, sugar, spices and herbs in the pantry. Thicker walled ones are the earliest-dating from 1820-1840. Thin walled are late - early 20th century and usually machine made. Pantry boxes can be oval, round and with or without handles. Boxes with handles are always round. Handles are wire bail with wooden grip or bentwood attached with wooden pegs. Boxes were constructed with metal tacks and wood pegs with an overlapping seam on both the box and the lid fastened with tacks.
